Super Eagles rises to 38th in new FIFA World ranking

Super Eagles rankingThe Nigerian Super Eagles of Nigeria moved to 38th in the latest FIFA world ranking.The new ranking now puts the Super Eagles in the fourth in Africa behind Egypt, Senegal and Cameroon.

The top 10 in the world remain unchanged with Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Chile, Colombia, France, Belgium, Portugal, Switzerland and Spain retaining their spots.

Nigeria climbed up two places after gaining four points in the month under review.

FIFA overturns Lionel Messi's banFollowing a hearing which took place in Zurich on May 4 2017, the FIFA Appeal committee has upheld the appeal lodged by the Argentinian Football Association on behalf of Lionel Messi, against the decision taken by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee.

Lifting the sanctions imposed on him, the Appeal Committee set aside the decision taken by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee on 28 March 2017, which, in application of art. 77 a) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC), had found Lionel Messi guilty of infringing art. 57 of the FDC for having directed insulting words at an assistant referee during Argentina’s World Cup qualifier against Chile.

FIFA, Manchester United condole with families of fans who died on in Calabar electrocution tragedy

Calabar electrocution tragedyThe Federation of International Football Association, FIFA, has expressed sadness over the death of 30 Manchester United football fans in Calabar, Cross River State.

The fans were electrocuted while watching the Europa League quarter-final game between Manchester United and Anderlecht on Thursday night.

The 30 fans were killed as a result of an electric cable that fell on the viewing centre where they were watching the game.

FIFA, however, wrote on its official twitter handle on Friday, “FIFA is deeply saddened by the deaths of several football fans in Calabar & offer our deepest condolences to family & friends of the victims.”
