Kanu Nwankwo is Arsenal’s 13th greatest player

Former Nigeria captain and Arsenal striker, Kanu Nwankwo has been named as the 13th greatest player of Arsenal football club.

Papilo, as he is fondly called, came 13th in a poll conducted by Arsenal fans on the club’s website to vote the top 50 greatest players to have represented the club.

French legend, Thierry Henry, was voted the best player ever in the history of the club, being the highest goal scorer ever for the Gunners.

Dennis Bergkamp came in second, with Tony Adams, Ian Wright and Patrick Viera finishing third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Kanu who was signed up for a sum of £4.15 million, spent five years with Arsenal and will be best remembered for his hat-trick heroics in the game against Chelsea, scoring three times in a space of 17 minutes.

He won the league title with the club and also the FA cup competition during his time there.

In all Kanu played 197 games for Arsenal and scored 44 goals. In the summer of 2004, after his contract with Arsenal ended, he moved to West Bromwich Albion on a free transfer.​
